Soibam Haripriya’s talk on ‘Split Blood: Kinship and Friendship in a Regime of Violence’ was an engaging sociological probe into how relationships in a land fraught with armed conflict are shaped by and also shape the precarious lived reality of the people. Themes of trust and mistrust, familial care and suspicion inflect the subjects of study as well as call for an innovative approach, beyond mainstream Indian sociology, to understand conflict sites such as Manipur and also Northeast India.
